We are big fans of companies that have specific missions and a vision that aligns with what we believe here at Eco-Babyz. We really like Peekaboo Beans and their play friendly clothing, but what we like even more are the initiatives they support to encourage unstructured play for kids. You may remember when I wrote Cultivating Their Inner World, reflecting on how important it is for kids to have time during the day when they can just be - without any plans, schedules, or activities. Peekaboo Beans understands the importance of free play and they have partnered with Playground Builders and launched the Play Revolution.
This video above sums it up pretty well! For every $1 in sales donated by a Stylist, Peekaboo Beans will match the contribution and donate it to Playground Builders.
Did you know that on average, children engage in 7 hours and 38 minutes of recreational media usage each day? The rest is usually scheduled activities and learning. Essentially kids are left with no time for free play, resulting in decreased creativity, imagination, curiosity, social skills, and ability to assess risk. As a mom, I know how important it is for my kids to have time for free play and on a daily basis I try to allow them to just be and play, without distractions. It is amazing what they can come up with! Even as they get older, or especially as they get older, I want to safeguard their right to free time and play. As a homeschooling family it is easy to over schedule too many field trips, play dates, and classes.
We love the Peekaboo Beans FUNdamentals line of children's clothing that is simple and perfect for free play. You can see the shirt and shorts are a tad large on Baby E, but she'll be growing into them in no time. The shorts are so cute and for a little girl who is obsessed with dresses, they are perfect to wear underneath at the playground for all those acrobatics she is likely to attempt. I love how soft everything is. Baby E does not like to wear clothes that's uncomfortable, I think it bothers her more than the average kid. So this is perfect, great fit, and lots of movement room. The In the Mix Tee costs $32 and the All-Day Short is $19. I'm afraid the short will be too comfy for her and they'll become the All-Day-and-Night shorts!
The FUNdamentals collection coordinates with all the Peekaboo Beans fabulous fashion collections. You'll notice that as always, the little details make their clothes stand out - quality fabrics, easy zippers, chin guards, thumb holes, and functional drawstrings for little waists. Their Spring 2013 collection looks pretty amazing too and I'm looking forward to seeing what they have in store for summer!
