Creating a safe, non-toxic sleeping environment can be a big investment these days. It is something especially important to pay attention to for babies and children since they are the most susceptible to toxins in our environment. I'm glad to have discovered Obasan recently and we have fallen in love with the Saguenay pillows that we received for review in June. What a relief to wake up without neck pain and to know you're not sleeping on an off-gassing pillow!
For the Welcome Baby event Obasan generously provided us with a Terra Nova 8000 Wool Moisture Pad and a Terra Nova 7200 Shredded Rubber Toddler Pillow (called an infant pillow, but infants don't technically sleep on one anyway). My two and a half year old has been sleeping on the toddler pillow for over a month and she absolutely loves it! The biggest reason probably being that it is "just like mommy's and daddy's". At least I can understand her since we're sleeping on the same thing. The only thing we don't like about it: the fill is on the generous side, i.e. it is a little too thick for a toddler and I would like to be able to either remove some fill or have it come with less in the first place, it is unnecessary really. Other than that, it's perfect. I love the textured organic cotton removable cover that can be washed. It is just the right size area wise and will grow well into childhood. Perfect for travel too!
The wool moisture pad is made of 100% pure wool and is naturally 99% waterproof. It comes in two sizes, the crib size 8000 that's 28" x 52" ($89) and the smaller one, 8500, that's 25" x 31" ($62). The smaller one is great for diaper changes and to keep in a diaper bag or on the changing table. Either size is great for protecting the baby's mattress, especially if you have an expensive organic crib mattress that often isn't waterproof. It's also great just for the baby lounging anywhere around the house to provide a safe and clean surface for them to play on.
