Do these pregnancy cravings ever end? I do not usually have a sweet tooth, but now I double up on the sweet blueberries, honey on my bread, and an extra slice of homemade pie. You see, I like my sweet things extra healthy, we keep no corn syrup in this house, it's been years since we had any candy, but yet we do stash at least 70% dark real cocoa chocolate!
When we are not home, which is often, I need to take healthy snacks with me. We were sent a variety pack of Organic Pure Bars to review and I've been taking them with me everywhere (and sneaking a couple to eat while I work at home). What a perfect snack on the go that's packed with nutrients me and my baby needs. Nothing artificial, just wholesome organic goodness.
The bars are a tad sweet for me, but that's because if you would try my homemade pie you would think it doesn't have enough sugar. We just don't make things very sweet around here, we are used to it (that's why I can't down anything store bought). But the sugar it does have is organic dates and agave, so there isn't any processed sugar there at all! It is made of completely raw ingredients - you get the most nutrients for your buck. It is an awesome snack for kids, during pregnancy, or anyone really.
I can certainly see why the price of one Organic Pure Bar is $1.83. These are not cheap ingredients like corn syrup or genetically modified soy. It isn't very big either (though heavy by weight). Personally, I wouldn't be able to buy these on a regular basis, but I would probably get some for trips and such. They do also make Pure Naturals bars that aren't organic and are priced at $1.33 each in a 12 pack box. They still have some organic ingredients, but aren't certified organic.
My favorites would have to be the Chocolate Brownie and the Wild Blueberry, plenty of good fats, protein, fiber, and a ton of bursting flavor. These don't taste anything like other so called 'nutrition bars', and why would they? The ingredients are superior and so is the taste in my opinion. Pure Bar is something I would come back to again and again without hesitation. Too bad my variety pack is almost empty!
It's also great to know Pure Bar supports The Lunchbox Fund. While we can pick and choose what we eat and what the ingredients are, many children go hungry every day - sometimes without a single meal. The Lunchbox Fund provides disadvantaged students in South Africa a daily school meal - often their only meal of the day.
