I don't drink protein shakes, nobody in our family does. But I thought maybe some of you do and this information would be very pertinent. Perhaps your husband likes a protein shake before or after he heads to the gym? Well, Consumer Reports has tested 15 different protein drinks for heavy metals such as arsenic, cadmium, mercury and lead. They have found that most of the shakes contained these, and some in disturbingly high amounts. Some of these are even marketed to pregnant women and growing children! Yikes! So look for your protein elsewhere - in REAL food, not 'miracle' shakes that advertise unrealistic benefits and don't disclose their heavy metal content.
"Cadmium raises special concern because it accumulates in and can damage the kidneys, the same organs that can be damaged by excessive protein consumption. And it can take 20 years for the body to eliminate even half the cadmium absorbed today."
